Ambulatory
Care
Volunteers make patient packets for the Pre-Opt Teaching
unit, as well as other clerical duties.
Café
Open Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., volunteers
work the counter serving patrons, make sandwiches and
fruit cups, package desserts, help with the salad
bar and
beverage bars, as well as keep the dining room in
order.
Volunteers also run the cash registers during Café
hours. Shifts are about three hours.
Gift Shop
Volunteers are sales associates-- greeting patrons, operating
the cash register, stocking selves, pricing merchandise,
arranging displays and performing other duties under the
direction of the manager.
MCH Information Desk/Transport Team
Volunteers greet patients and visitors, give directions,
transport patients in wheelchairs to all areas of the
hospital, deliver mail, flowers and newspapers to patient
rooms, run errands for all departments, answer a multitude
of questions, etc.
Medical Office Building Information Desk
Volunteer greet patients and visitors at this entrance,
directing them throughout the MOB or to the hospital.
Maternity
Volunteers are receptionists on this unit, greeting and
welcoming patients, families and visitors, and perform
clerical duties as requested.
Emergency Department
Volunteer perform a variety of tasks, including answering
the phone, copying documents, making up stretchers, retrieving
medical records, escorting patients to other areas of
the hospital, helping with families in any way possible
and with other duties that the staff deems appropriate.
Intensive Care Unit
Volunteers answer the phone, run errands, copy, assemble
charts, assist with families and visitors, and be helpful
in every way possible.
Medical/Surgical Unit
Volunteers assist the staff by answering call bells, assembling
charts, greeting visitors and families, running errands,
copying, transporting patients to other departments, and
assist staff in any way possible.
Food and Nutrition Services
Volunteers assist with various kitchen duties, transporting
food to the Café, and taking guest trays to the
patient units.
Visiting Committee
Volunteers visit patients to assess their level of satisfaction.
This is a sub-committee of the MCH Board of Directors.
Chaplaincy Program
Volunteers are specially trained to participate in spiritual
care for patients and their families.
Mail Room
Volunteers assist in the mail room on the lower level
with sorting and distribution of mail.
Palliative Care
Volunteers are specially trained to work with patients
and families in life threatening situations, assisting
the palliative care social worker.
Trolley
From spring until late fall, volunteers provide the trolley
service for patients and visitors in the parking lots.
Drivers must be 16 years of age and hold a valid driver’s
license.
Knitters
Volunteers knit baby caps, afghans and blankets and make
quilts for the babies on Maternity and laprobes for
the Medical/Surgical Unit. Knitting instructions are
on this website.
SLIM Team
Volunteers “sort, label, insert and mail” bulk mailings
for the volunteer and development departments. On call
as needed.
Health Information
Volunteers assist with filing medical records and perform other clerical duties.
