A Healing Environment Like No Other

Mid Coast Hospital is a community hospital like no other. Much thought went into designing a facility that was not just state-of-the-art but state-of-the-heart, with a healing environment that nurtures the whole patient—body, mind and spirit.

The building is sited to take full advantage of the woods, ledge and natural light. Works of art on display, from murals and paintings to water treatments and sculpture, serve as “peaceful eddies in the stream” of hospital life. They slow our pace, engage our spirit and support the healing process.

We are proud to feature the original work of local artists, including William Zorach, Dahlov Ipcar, Mark Wethli, Andreas von Huene and Janet Redfield and Nina Jerome.

Young Artist Tile Project Students from 16 area elementary schools painted over 700 kiln-fired tiles, which add to Mid Coast’s healing environment. These imaginative works grace our walls in groupings throughout the hospital. Meditation Room This beautiful room was made possible by an anonymous donor. It is a quiet sanctuary for those of all faiths, distinguished by stained glass windows, created by Maine artist, Janet Redfield, and a soothing waterfall. Healing Garden Our healing garden is a place where patients and family can go for reflection and fresh air. The garden features indigenous plantings and natural outcroppings around a central millstone fountain. Nature Trails A wooded walking trail invites patients and community members to enjoy the natural beauty that surrounds our campus. Pastoral Care Program Pastoral care volunteers offer a warm smile and a sympathetic ear to hospital patients. We hear, time and again, how these non-denominational volunteers bring comfort to those in need of emotional support. Hospital Volunteers Every day, hospital volunteers bring comfort and cheer to Mid Coast patients in innumerable ways. They assist patients and families, serve food and light up the corridors with their smiles.
